Museum and Library - update
The Museum in the Library proposal:
Thank you for your interest and support of our proposal, which was for the Museum to join the Library in a new Community Hub for Marlow.
Our proposal was to occupy a room at the front of the existing Library so that we could be open even if the Library was not available to the public. Our intention was to ensure that the Museum remained an entity which Members, Friends and the public could support. It was essential that the space we would occupy was no less than, and preferably larger than, the space we occupy at Court Garden.
In June 2019 the County Council Library Service advised us of their decision:
‘Having considered the needs of the new community hub as a whole and the importance of delivering a reception/entrance space that promotes the widest access to council services it was agreed that we could not accommodate the Museum in this part of the scheme.’
Marlow Museum will therefore continue to be located in the Peacock Room at Court Garden and the Library and the Museum will continue its current arrangement of working together in partnership.
10 May 19 - 10 Years Old
Marlow Museum celebrated it's 10th birthday on Friday 10th May 2019. The event was enjoyed by about 60 members, friends, volunteers, supporters and town councillors.
The Museum Chairman and founding member, Mike Hyde, gave a welcoming talk, including a brief history of the activities building up to the opening of the museum ten years ago.
The Mayor, Chris Funnell, thanked the museum for it's considerable contribution to Marlow.
Michael Eagleton, local photographic historian and also one of the founding members of the museum, recounted some of the initial venue searching for the museum and then, at Mike's request, cut the ribbon to formally open the new exhibition: The Story of Marlow.
