(select image to enlarge)
The riverside village of Bisham has a rich and interesting history. It appeared in the 1086 Doomsday book as Bistesham, with a settlement of 21 households and a church. The tower of All Saints Church dates back to the 12th century. The first manor at Bisham was built in 1260 by The Knights Templar, with part of this surviving today as the main hall of Bisham Abbey.
Village life centred on Bisham Abbey for hundreds of years, until 1965 when everything changed...
The museum display takes you through some of Bisham's long history, the people, some vivid memories of the village in the 20th century, and some glimpses of Bisham you may not be aware of.
There is an accompanying booklet available to purchase at the museum.
